Dr. Rajesh Bhalla is a Healthcare & Hospital Consultant based at New Delhi.

An alumnus of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune with post–graduate degrees – DNB (Healthcare Administration), MD/MHA (Hospital Administration) and M.Sc (Defence Studies).

Dr. Bhalla commenced his career as a clinician with the Indian Navy in 1972, and then graduated into Healthcare Administration. He has diverse operational experience in healthcare through a variety of assignments in the Navy [Ministry of Defence] upto 2001. Thereafter, he delved into the private /corporate healthcare sector with Dr. BL Kapoor Hospital, Max Healthcare Ltd., Fortis Healthcare Ltd. & Dharamshila Hospital & Research Centre. Later he became the Dean (Academics) and Professor (Hispital Management) in IIHMR, Delhi.

His area of forte’ encompasses Hospital Planning & Healthcare Management, apart from operational & strategic roles. He has been involved in exploring and developing business opportunities in areas other than direct healthcare delivery, including proposals on public–private-partnership with Government and PSU agencies, liaison/ linking-up with CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, and other NGOs.

As a doctor and a professional healthcare planner & administrator, he has acquired in-depth knowledge of hospital planning and general management in hospitals, strategic planning, materials and financial management relating to health care industry, and quality assurance standards. Academics and Teaching and imparting/sharing information have always been of keen interest to him. Planning of Healthcare Information Technology is also familiar to him.

In 2002, he assisted/supported the Confederation of Indian Industry – CII National Committee on Healthcare in conjunction with M/s McKinsey & Company in preparation of the Report on “Healthcare in India: The Road Ahead”, which became a reference guide in the Industry. He had been an active member in Healthcare and Education Committees in CII from 2002 to 2005.

He has been associated with FICCI since 2005 todate. He led the Task Force for the PPP initiatives at FICCI for 3 years, and has also been actively involved with Health Insurance initiatives at the FICCI Task Force, since then. He had represented FICCI in the Task Forces of Healthcare in the Planning Commission in 2007, for the 11th 5-year Plan, and in Healthcare and Education Committees of FICCI Committees from 2005 upto date. Was the Knowledge Partner in Healthcare (PPP & Health Insurance) with M/s Ernst & Young, from 2005 to 2011.

M/s FICCI–Ernst & Young have acknowledged Dr. Rajesh Bhalla’s contribution to the documents prepared – “Opportunities in Healthcare – Destination India” in 2007; “Fostering quality healthcare for all” in 2008 and “Public–Private Partnership for universal, affordable and quality healthcare” in 2009 – which are books of reference in the Industry.

He had been instrumental in initiating “Healthcare Sciences” as a subject for the CBSE

curriculum for 11th & 12th Classes from 2009, which has been implemented.

Has also authored chapters in the curriculum of PG Diploma in Hospital and Health Management through IGNOU and for the “Development of Accreditation Standards for Healthcare Organisation in India”, elements of which was incorporated in the current NABH (QCI) standards.

On the Academics front, has been teaching has been imparting healthcare-related lectures at various institutions / organizations including Medical Directors / Hospital Managers at Kabul (Afghanistan) and Sri Lanka, Government officials of Bihar, Orissa, Gujarat, Delhi and many allied organizations. 

Has Chaired and participated in a number of the Healthcare related Conferences and Workshops.

Currently, he is doing Voluntary Social Service, as Adviser – Medical Services in Indian Cancer Society (Delhi).
