Background

The COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing global phenomenon which started in the year 2019 with first case in the world that was reported from Wuhan, China1. Since then this pandemic has wreaked havoc in the whole world challenging the capabilities of the healthcare infrastructure across the globe. India has been the major sufferer of the pandemic contributing 15.22% of the total cases till date2. The Second wave has been more devastating and challenging as compared to the first wave where the daily new cases touched a peak of 4,14,188 Cases3. The second pandemic wave has brought higher numbers of moderate-to-severe COVID-19 cases requiring urgent hospital admission.4 There was a major crisis in the country as the case load increased beyond the available healthcare facilities and the same was reflecting at the hospital/ institute level in SDMCMS&H as it was the major dedicated COVID-19 Hospital and referral center in the region, treating around 300 COVID cases at any given point of time. The demand & the supply gap were increasing. The cases kept pouring in and the available resources had to be utilized in the most efficient way possible. In a time bound situation it was paramount to have a good coordinated effort of all the clinical & non clinical teams. The resources had to be monitored & controlled. In view of all these challenges the need for a Central War Room was felt from where all the efforts could be coordinated and implemented effectively & efficiently.
